Susan Scott and the book ‘Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time’

The Susan Scott book Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time offers a decent introduction to leadership communication and methods for being authentic. The gist of the message is to be emotionally aware, offer the leadership you needed or wanted at similar times in the past, and give both of those without being mean.

(Susan Scott wrote the book Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time).

The book offers a decent underpinning for how to enter into interpersonal and leadership conversations, starting from the perspective of being engaged with yourself first. The seven principles for what Susan Scott terms “fierce” conversations feel like sound principles for emotional human principles intended to be successful. Telling us to question reality, be real, be fully present, address the most important things first, trust your instincts, know how people respond to you and act thoughtfully, the pragmatic side of these principles hit home.

(Seven Principles of Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time by Susan Scott).

Addressing how to grow leadership skills led Susan Scott to offer the decision tree metaphor. The four points of progression used were leaf level, branch level, trunk level and root level decisions that demonstrate the notion for increasing accountability and responsibility in leadership. The scale progresses from individual accountability when discussed beginning levels of a career. The notion of joint accountability addresses leadership where accountability addresses perspectives and communication approaches across multiple people and organizational leaders and staff. This imagery of this metaphor will help me communicate this principle to those growing their careers.

(The Decision Tree metaphor from Susan Scott‘s book Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time).

I appreciate the clear communication style of the language and writing style of this book. The ideas were clear, with the ability to take what will help me being readily available. I rate Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time as written by Susan Scott at 3.75-stars on a scale of 1-to-5.
